Hello Steve. I feel very blessed to have found your blog at such a pivotal time in my life… a difficult time… when challenges seem to be mounting and my strength seems to be waning. Your perspective on life and love is beautiful, spiritual, and profound. As the mother of a “special needs” child… a child whose needs are consistently misunderstood by mainstream Christianity – and – as a mother whose motives toward unconditional love and acceptance are callously judged on a daily basis… I wanted to thank you for your beautiful insight… THANK YOU for making my load a little lighter. I was a a party last night and made a point of engaging in long conversation with someone I am not a huge fan of. I did it for the simple reason that I knew avoiding her and judging her from a distance was not very Jesus-like. My flesh wanted to say “you know after 20 years of walking with God, you REALLY ought to have it more together.” I fought past that and sat down with her and engaged. I walked away smelling a bit more like my Lord. It is not the easy thing to do, just the right thing. I want to do more right things. “trust in the Lord and do good” Ps 37

Oh wow! I find myself doing the same thing! I don’t even realize it at times. But so often the Spirit of God will nudge me and I’ll question my own reaction to certain people. Just how to go about this “counter behavior” as you talked about, is a puzzle. It certainly is something I’m going to be praying about! Thank you for the wake up call.
