Just now had time to read this – as always, so well stated. One thing that stood out, “Striving for short-lived esteem and honor in other people’s eyes is just not worth the effort.” I think this is what so draws the ire of his detractors – his apparent lack of response/reaction to so many things – he seems to realize just how not worth the effort so many things/people are. With flag pens on their lapels, chests puffed out, no one more patriotic than they, they actually cheer when our country looses it’s shot at hosting the Olympics because it would have been in ‘his’ city – they groan and bemoan this NPP not for a second considering they’re groaning and bemoaning their own country and what it may return to: a light in the world, vs the dark war-monger state we’ve been seen as over the past many years. I do hope he manages to “earn” the award despite the thousands praying he, and as a result, our country go down in defeat. Ok, I’ll quit there Thanks for adding some perspective to the subject

As always, a very good reflection. Indeed, worldly honors are not what we are seeking
I am not so much a cheerleader for the President receiving this honor but more disgusted by the visceral response on the extreme right
